Project Status - Completed

Southwark is located in Old Basford, North-West of Nottingham in a busy residential area. The school affords the amalgamation of the former Infant and Junior Schools which were previously sited approximately ¼ mile apart, whilst providing generous landscaping for both curricular activities and play. The sporting provisions meet Sport England Requirements and the football pitches and habitat area are open to the local Community.

The Project and Design:

Southwark Primary School was delivered as an exemplar building as part of the DCSFs Primary Capital programme. The school build is of the highest quality and leads by example via the sharing of good practice to achieve an improved performance in education, building design and sustainability. The School accommodates 630 pupils from ages 3-11.

The classrooms are extended externally and into hub areas which act as a spill out area adjoining all bases within that year group to allow for integrated teaching. In addition to the building are the prominent external grounds that offer numerous play areas, sport pitches and habitat areas to a high quality.

The full size 3G synthetic turf is one of a few available in the area. It is floodlit and attracts local football clubs and the community.

The building is predominately one storey with the main teaching areas located on the Ground Floor. The First Floor extends above the main entrance, Kitchen and Plant areas and accommodates the admin and main meeting rooms. The structure is of steel frame with exposed timber joists. Multi-coloured lighting diffusers conceal services within the ceiling and walls, and are a feature across the school. Externally the cladding comprises of polycarbonate in a range of colours, rain screen panels including stainless steel, timber featured panels, curtain wall and Nottingham red brick.
