Project Status- Complete

Nottingham Academy is the largest Academy in Europe and the third to be delivered by Carillion as part of the Nottingham BSF programme. It has transformed education facilities for 3,600 children aged 3 to 19.

The Nottingham Academy scheme provides new and state-of-the-art buildings at the Greenwood Road site (the former Jesse Boot site) for 800 primary and 1,200 secondary students, together with remodelled and refurbished accommodation at the Ransom Road site for over 1,000 secondary students and the former Greenwood Dale site for a further 600 secondary students.

The Project and Design:

The work at Ransom Road site has seen the £16million refurbishment of two main buildings - part of the former Elliot Durham School in Mapperley.

• Phase 1 works commenced in August 2009 and involved the extensive remodelling of Building 2, providing state-of-the-art teaching facilities for Years 7 & 8. The building has been completely re-clad and re-roofed, together with the installation of a new link bridge providing indoor circulation between the two buildings.

Internally, works involved the provision of over 20 teaching spaces and support areas, providing facilities for Science, Technology and ICT learning provision. Building 2 was successfully handed over on programme in August 2010.

• Phase 2 works commenced in August 2010 and saw a similar level of refurbishment to the larger Building 1.

Building 1 provides teaching spaces for years 9, 10 and 11 - together with management and administration space for the next established Academy.

The programme and logistics associated with this phase required the provision of a temporary school to the former hard play area - consisting of over 20 teachings spaces and support services. This allowed the Academy to continue full operations throughout the duration of the works.

Final completion date for all the works was December 2011. This included a re-modelled entrance plaza, staff car parks and multi-use games areas.
